China, temporary pilot: Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism announced a trial visa exemption for Chinese tourists holding passports issued by the People’s Republic of China, valid from 15 June to 15 October 2026. It allows stays of up to 14 days and multiple entries. It is not part of the permanent list above and ends on 15 October 2026, so check whether it has been extended before you travel.

“My country is on the official list, but not here”

The Cambodian government’s full table also names countries such as China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Türkiye, Hungary and others. For those countries, the exemption covers only diplomatic and official (service) passports, not ordinary passports. If you hold a regular passport from one of them, you still need a visa.

If you are not visa-exempt

Most travellers on a Moc Bai run, including citizens of the US, UK, EU countries, Australia, Canada, Russia, South Korea, Japan and India, need a Cambodian visa. There are two ways to get one:

  • E-visa before the trip. Apply on the official site, evisa.gov.kh, or let us arrange it as part of your booking. You arrive at Bavet with the approval ready, which keeps the day simpler.
  • Visa at the border. You can also get a visa on arrival at the Bavet checkpoint. See our current prices for what this costs on our trips.

What this means for your visa run

  • If you are exempt, you don’t need a Cambodian visa for the crossing. On a same-day run the number of days doesn’t matter, because you come back the same day.
  • If you are not exempt, sort out the Cambodian visa before or at the border, then re-enter Vietnam.
  • Either way, you also need a valid way back into Vietnam: a Vietnam e-visa, or a Vietnam visa exemption for your nationality. The Cambodian side and the Vietnamese side are separate checks.

Not sure where you stand? Send us your nationality and passport type and we’ll check it before you book. See the full Ho Chi Minh – Moc Bai route for how the day works.
